Power to the People: This Weeks Global Wins

With 7 million Americans peacefully flooding the streets for No Kings Day, a Maine Senate candidate speaking out for his citizens, and Portland gathering for creative civil resistance, there's been a massive shift for the collective. Power is returning to the people.

The energy rising is all about balance and strategic action. It's the perfect time for negotiations that don't require us to sacrifice what matters most, and for building partnerships that actually serve everyone, both on an individual and collective level. Beyond politics or protests, we are completely reshaping the world we live in.

Let's dive into the wins we've been seeing this week.

Political Movements and Activism

Graham Platner's Grassroots Campaign in Maine: Running for Democratic Senate in 2026, his progressive candidate is proving that values-first politics can beat establishment cynicism. With town halls drawing 900 people, an average donation of just $33, and zero corporate PAC money, Platner is defending LGBTQ+ freedom and refusing to throw immigrants or trans kids under the bus. His message? Taxpayer dollars should build schools and hospitals, "not bombs to destroy them in Gaza."

"No Kings Day" Protests Stayed Massive and Peaceful: Nearly 7 million people attended "No Kings Day" protests on Oct 18th across the US, flooding cities like NYC, LA, Chicago, and even rural areas like New Port Richie FL. The best part is, there were NO protest-related arrests, everything remained peaceful.

Portland's Creative Civil Resistance: Thousands participated in an "Emergency" World Naked Bike Ride, rolling through downtown to the ICE facility in response to Trump's federalization of Oregon National Guard troops. Using Oregon's protest nudity protections, activists made a pointed statement against militarization and over-policing of immigrant and Indigenous communities.

Mexico Cartel Places Bounties on ICE Agents:
Mexican drug cartels rolled out a tiered bounty system targeting ICE officers—$2,000 for doxing/intel, $5,000–$10,000 for kidnappings or non‑lethal assaults on standard ICE/CBP officers, and up to $50,000 for assassinations of high‑ranking officials. Dept of Homeland Security has cited gangs using armed “spotters” and drone surveillance amid deportation sweeps in cities like Chicago and Portland. If the the US is running around kidnapping citizens, at least the cartel has our back.

Wins for LGBTQ+ Rights

Church of Norway's Historic Apology: At Oslo's London Pub—site of a 2022 Pride shooting—Bishop Olav Fykse Tveit apologized to LGBTQ+ people for "shame, great harm, and pain." The church now ordains gay pastors and performs same-sex marriages, with reactions ranging from "important reparation" to "too late" for those lost to AIDS-era bigotry.

Thailand's Trans Wellbeing Charter Coming: Building on their landmark equal marriage law, Thailand will unveil a comprehensive Trans Wellbeing Charter on March 31, 2026, focusing on hormone access, inclusive policies, and medical education upgrades. It builds on Thailand’s equal marriage law that took effect in January, replacing “husband/wife” with “spouses” and granting adoption and inheritance rights.

Planetary and Culture Wins

Iceland’s Last Whaling Company Cancels Fin Whale Hunt: For the first time in decades, Iceland’s northern waters will remain undisturbed by the harpoons of commercial whalers. The nation’s sole remaining whaling company has announced that it will not pursue fin whales during 2025. The decision signals what many believe could be the end of one of Iceland’s most controversial industries.

Girls Opportunity Alliance funds $2.5M across 28 countries: Michelle Obama’s initiative is funding 54 girl-serving organizations for scholarships, mentorship, STEM bootcamps, vocational training, and mental health. Reaching countries like Uganda, Indonesia, Colombia, India, Trinidad, and Tobago, the Alliance has supported 205+ projects across 46 countries to date.

Player Equity for New Global League: A planned men’s and women’s 5-on-5 basketball league nicknamed “Project B” aims to launch tournaments across Asia, Europe, and Latin America, offering players equity, not just salaries. Backers include Candace Parker, Sloane Stephens, Alana Beard, Steve Young, and more.

Why This Week Matters

We're witnessing a fundamental shift in how power operates. With Graham Platner's grassroots surge, Thailand's trans rights expansion, and Project B creating new ways to give back to players, power is shifting back into the hands of the people.

The crumbling we've been seeing is no accident. While it's uncomfortable to witness, it's happening for a reason. So we can build new systems, structures, and foundations of living that actually work for us.

How will you step into the change this week?
