Spiritual Awakening Symptoms: How Do You Know You're Having One?

The most common signs of a spiritual awakening are that the life you built stops fitting, your intuition gets louder, and you start feeling people, rooms and timing more strongly than you used to. Many people also feel tired, raw or lonely for a while as the old version of them falls away. An awakening isn't a diagnosis, and any physical or mental-health symptom deserves a doctor or therapist first.

If your life has started to feel different from the inside, and you can't quite explain it to the people around you, you may be in the middle of an awakening. These are the signs I see most often in the women I work with, and what helps while it's happening.

The signs most people notice first

The old life stops fitting

The work you were proud of starts to feel heavy. The pushing and proving that used to get you results feels empty, and some relationships that were easy now take effort. Nothing on the outside changed, and yet it doesn't fit the way it used to.

You start seeing the systems you were handed

The rules you were given about work, money, marriage and success start to look like rules someone else wrote. We're waking up to the patriarchal standards. We're waking up to the confinement. Once you see them, it's very hard to unsee them.

Your intuition gets louder

The whisper you used to talk yourself out of gets harder to ignore. Maybe you heard it years ago and set it aside; now it's coming back in that second or third wave.

You feel more: people, rooms and timing

You walk into a room and feel the energy before anyone speaks. You sense when something is about to happen, or when the timing is right for a decision. If you've been soaking up everyone's moods along the way, I wrote about that in am I an empath?

Tired, raw and a little lonely

An awakening can be emotionally tiring, because so much is shifting at once. You might feel raw, cry more easily, or feel lonely because the people around you aren't seeing what you're seeing yet. Ongoing exhaustion deserves a doctor's look first.

Intuitive and psychic signs

This is the part most lists leave out, and it's a big part of what I teach. We're in the 3D world, but we're waking up to the fourth dimension, and now you have more abilities. For a lot of women that shows up as:

  • knowing something before it happens;
  • synchronicities, when the same numbers, names or messages keep finding you;
  • vivid dreams that feel like more than dreams;
  • sensing a presence or guidance around you, especially in quiet moments.

These are gifts, and they get clearer as you learn to trust them. I talk about how in how to trust your intuition.

Divine feminine awakening symptoms

For many women, the awakening has a particular feel: a pull out of pushing and proving, and into receiving and trusting. You stop wanting to force things, you want to be led by what feels true, and you're less willing to override your body to get something done.

The divine feminine awakening isn't outside of us… all we're doing is turning on the switches, illuminating the light that's already inside of you. It's a move into the next evolution of who you are.

Why it feels so intense right now

If this feels bigger than you expected, there's a reason. It makes sense that the awakenings are more intense now, because the veil is thin and maybe people haven't listened to the whisper.

A collective awakening

You're also not doing this alone. So many people are waking up at the same time, and you can feel it in conversations, in your own circle and in the world around you. I go into the collective side of it in the Schumann resonance and spiritual awakening.

What helps while it's happening

While you're in it, the focus is simple: let's take care of the nervous system, take care of the field, be able to tune into the whisper. In everyday terms, that looks like:

  • slowing down enough to notice what you're feeling;
  • a few quiet minutes each day to come back to yourself; my free 20-day meditation series is a gentle place to start;
  • rest, water, time outside, and the people who let you be exactly where you are;
  • writing down what the whisper says, so you can see it over time.

When It's Not an Awakening: See a Doctor or Therapist First

Some of what gets called awakening symptoms, like exhaustion, poor sleep, anxiety, a racing heart or feeling detached from yourself, can also come from things a doctor or therapist needs to look at. Nobody can tell the difference from a web page, including me. If something is showing up in your body or your mind, please get it checked by a licensed professional first; this work sits alongside care, never in place of it. And if you're not sleeping for days, can't get through your day, feel unsafe, or the people closest to you are worried, please reach out for support today.

Common questions

How do I know if I'm having a spiritual awakening?

The most common signs are that the life you built stops fitting, your intuition gets louder, and you feel people, rooms and timing more strongly than you used to. Any physical or mental-health symptom deserves a doctor or therapist first.

What does a spiritual awakening feel like?

Many people describe seeing past the rules and systems they were handed, a pull toward a life that feels more true, and a stretch of feeling raw, tired or lonely as the old version of them falls away.

Can a spiritual awakening make you tired?

It can feel emotionally tiring, because so much is changing at once. Ongoing exhaustion deserves a doctor's look first, so please get it checked before you assume it's spiritual.

Is it a spiritual awakening or psychosis?

Nobody can answer that from a web page, including me, and it isn't a question to sit with alone. If you're losing sleep for days, feeling frightened or unsafe, struggling to get through your day, or the people closest to you are worried, please see a doctor or a licensed mental health professional now. Getting checked takes nothing away from your spiritual path; care and this work can sit side by side.

Is a spiritual awakening good or bad?

It can feel like both. The stretch where the old life stops fitting is uncomfortable, and it's often where a life that feels more like yours begins.

Is spiritual awakening real?

It's very real to the people living it. Do you know how many people tell me they want more magic and then they logic and reason themselves out of their next evolution? If something in you is waking up, it's worth listening to.

So where are you in it?

An awakening moves in stages, and knowing which one you're in changes what you do next.
