If you often know something before you can explain it, and then talk yourself out of it, you're probably more intuitive than you think. This episode is about learning how your intuition speaks to you, so you can trust it even when logic says no.

What you'll hear

Tamara came to this work as a type A, anti woo woo, logic-based thinker who was sure she had no intuition at all, until a psychic friend told her over lunch that everyone is psychic. That conversation is where she discovered she was a knower, and it's where this episode begins.

She walks through the different ways intuition comes through, the story of how a used Volvo turned into a Porsche Cayenne while she was making about $1,500 a month, and simple ways to start trusting what you already know.

The different ways intuition comes through

Most people expect intuition to look like visions, but there are five or six main ways we receive it: seeing (clairvoyance), hearing (clairaudience), feeling (clairsentience), smelling, and knowing (claircognizance). Knowing and feeling are the two most common, and the more you honor any of them, the more they start to overlap. Tamara is a knower, and she finds many analytical people are, because knowing is quick and needs no explanation; it simply guides you.

Each one has its own catch. As a knower, your logical brain will talk you out of things while your intuition pulls you toward them, so when something doesn't make logical sense, that's often the path. As a feeler, a yes usually feels light in your body and a no feels heavy, but you have to notice whether you're feeling your own energy or someone else's. If you hear your guidance, ask whether the voice sounds like you, because a negative voice that sounds like your mother is past patterning.

What happens when you follow your intuition past logic

About ten years ago Tamara needed a new family car, set clear parameters for price, mileage and condition, and was playing with the energy of luxury at the same time. The search turned up two options, a Saturn Vue and an older Volvo wagon, and neither had any juice, yet her intuition kept saying Volvo. Stalling on the way to the test drive, she went looking for a second opinion, and a used car dealer in California said that if those were the parameters, he had a Porsche Cayenne for sale. It was the same price and the same mileage; the only thing in the way was the label of luxury and the story that says you can't afford it.

Her intuition had been laying breadcrumbs. As she puts it, "My intuition was Volvo, because I didn't know a Porsche was on the table." There are countless options available at any moment and we limit them with our own minds, so when you keep choosing the energy of something and stay open, the universe can hand you one you couldn't see. Fear will show you every way it won't work out and keep you stuck in logic.

How to start trusting your intuition

Start by looking back. Ask yourself when your intuition spoke and you weren't listening, when you knew something was off and didn't pay attention, then notice whether it came as a gut feeling, a heaviness in your body or a plain knowing. Practice on small questions first, like what your body wants to eat or drink or what kind of movement it wants today, and leave the high-stakes questions for later, because that's where you're most likely to misread the answer.

Whatever you do, don't test it. The moment you test your intuition, doubt is sitting in the background, and you won't grow something you don't believe in; keep trusting what shows up instead. If you want a playful way to train it, Tamara swears by jigsaw puzzles, letting your hand pick a piece and place it rather than doing the edges first because that's the rule.

Intuition, signs and your social media feed

A conversation you overhear or a video in your feed can be guidance, the message you need when you need it. On your algorithm like attracts like, so what shows up there reflects the energy you're already in. Intuition is the connection between you and your higher self, and it lets you direct the energy and choose where you go. Tamara closes with the one lesson she'd keep above all others: you're the creator of your reality, and if you don't like it, you can change it. Want to go further? Read why you keep repeating the same pattern.
